I'm so lucky I live in a world where there are Octobers

Oct 06, 2020

October is one of the most glorious of months, don't you think? We are surrounded by colours constantly, of course, but during the month of October everything seems so much crisper, sharper and clearer somehow. Luscious reds, golden oranges and rich browns adorn the trees, gently waving.

However, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, white is the colour associated with autumn, and where better to start my blog than with a blank white page? White light is created when all the visible colours in the spectrum combine and it is the purest form of light. It encompasses truth, light and surrender.

Surrendering does not come easily to me. If I were an animal, I would be a squirrel. I love finding treasures, gathering them and squirreling them away for later. Of course, this invariably means that I forget my various hiding places and only rediscover them long after the event.

During the panic-buying frenzy in some supermarkets at the start of lockdown, desperate shoppers grabbed what they could, piling their trollies with items they may not have truly needed, fuelled by a siege mentality. This was not squirreling in action. This was not taking what they needed to tide them over for lean times. This was panic. In fearful times, it is very easy to panic. What is the first thing people say when another starts to panic? "Breathe." Always remember to breathe. If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that at each moment all we really have is our breath. We breathe in and we breathe out and when we concentrate on this action, we can see that everything flows.

One of my great challenges is to learn to surrender, to let go, to release. What is it you are being asked to surrender this week? Go within yourself and see if you can find the answer.

There is always enough.
